6/4/2012 Tuesday
Decided to peddle my bicycle today to use some different muscles and discovered that I had forgotten my bicycle shoes. I have the kind that lock into the peddles and riding the bike with my running shoes would have very uncomfortable on my feet. It is tough to get old and loose your mind. That was the 10th thing that I have forgotten. We drove into Bend and found a bicycle store and I bought some new ones. My others were about shot anyway. Because I got such a late start with the shoe thing I only got in 25 miles on my bike but the wind was blowing terribly right in my face so it felt like a 100. While I was riding along highway 97 just before Madras a really big dog came running out and started chasing me. I could see he was going to easily catch me so I stopped real fast to get off and kick him before he bit me. I was so focused on the dog that I forgot I was locked into my peddles and didn't take the necessary step of twisting my foot to unlock so just fell over by the side of the road. I knew the dog was going to jump on me and start biting so I covered my head with my arms. Nothing happened so I looked up and the dog was just standing there panting and looking like he was laughing at me. I got up and yelled at him and he ran back where he had come from. We are camping on the Colombia Gorge in Washington at Mary's Hill State Park just across from Biggs Junction. Another wonderful meal tonight cooked by my wonderful wife and mother. I am planning on running/walking tomorrow. Nice weather right now except for the wind. It was a bugger getting the tent set up, but Patty and Mom held on to the tent while I got it staked down. Two days down and 18 to go. There is no wifi at the camp so I am going to drive back over to Biggs and send this from MacDonalds. Who knows what I might buy while I am in there.

  1. Sounds like an eventful day! Ava was very concerned about the dog incident, though. We prayed hard at dinner that tomorrow all dogs would leave you alone! :) love you!
