Dee's Alaska Adventure
Patty, mom and I drove in the car today about 250 miles. Rained the whole day. We got to Cottonwoods campground on Kluane Lake and it quit raining so we drove in and got a tent sight right on the Lake. The sign said that this is the area of highest concentration of Grizzly bears on the Alaskan Highway. The lady in this office said be careful not to leave any food out overnight or the bears will come visiting. I will be sure to brush my teeth really good tonight. I don't want bears attracted to my breath. We saw 3 grizzlies on our drive today. We watched them for about 10 minutes trying to cross the road. They would get up to the edge of the road and look both ways, see a car and then back off, then they tried again. And again. And again. I can see why you don't see bears laying along side the road having been hit by a car. They were as careful as a First Grader crossing the street. We got tired waiting for them to make it across so left. Not sure if they ever did make it across. We are going to arrive at Shelly's 2 days before we planned so I get to spend an extra couple of days with my grand kids. Super. Still gimping around on my knee trying to get out of work as we set up camp, but Patty said her hip hurt worse than my knee so get busy and do something! Sheesh.
