Dee's Alaska Adventure

I got to thinking about goals today as I road along on my bike. Goals are one of the keys to rising above mediocrity in any area of life. Professionally, in our Christian life, as a husband or wife, as a Dad or Mom, even in the area of hobbies. But without accountability goals seldom do much in anybodies life. There is a balance that is almost an art that must be maintained in order for accountability to be a positive force for good in our life. The personal motive is to please the Lord, to glorify Him with our life accomplishments, to love our wife, raise our kids well. The motive can subtly shift to impressing the people who are holding us accountable and then the whole goal setting thing becomes negative. Many I know have let this challenge get them in a knot to the point that they quite setting goals and thereby loose an amazing tool for personal growth and accomplishment. It takes thought, personal reflection, and self examination, but it is very possible. Accountability is admitting up front that we were created by God to accomplish great things with our life only with others, never by ourselves. Accountability can be a strong statement of humility saying, "I need you", or it can become an excuse to show off. As I write my blog each day I take the time to discipline my thinking to remind myself that many are praying for me, and encouraging me and I am a much better person because of it and capable of greater faithfulness and accomplishment.
